7.5 HP air compressor motor died

So my shop air compressor motor tanked after I just spend $250 on bearings and a new starter. Now the windings have shorted out and the shop thinks its bad enough to not justify the repairs. So I'm looking for a new motor without breaking the bank. I need a single phase 7.5HP 60HZ 220V motor and found some Leeson's for around $600, which seems like a deal compared to Baldor. Anyone have experience with Leeson in this size range? I don't want to have to go through this again...

check with another motor rewind shop, they may be able to re-wind your motor for less than new, with a 7.5 hp, it may be cost effective

The last one I bought was a Baldor off Ebay. Brand new in the box. It was smaller, though... a 3hp, maybe?

I'm no more help than that, though.
