So I am getting close to finishing my T-bucket project and I am installing the trans cables etc. I keep reading about proper adjustment of the TV cable for the 700R4 and all the horrors that can happen if it isn’t done right. I have a Quick Fuel/Holley carburetor on the engine. Now I am reading you have to have a TV correction kit to run this style carburetor with the 700R4 or bad things will happen to my trans. Does anyone have experience with this or some pearls of wisdom on setting this cable?

thanks for the help!

Mine was a little different with the TPI set up and a factory TV cable. If you are using a universal cable It should be hold WOT, pull the cable tight, tighten the set screw, and release throttle IIRC.

Im going to over simplify it and help and confuse you possibly.
The absolute key here is making sure the cable is fuly pulled at WOT and making sure it is fully released at off throttle.
Fully "pulled" at half throttle/cruising will burn it up. Not fully released at off throttle will burn it up. Everything in between is just "tuning"

Yea that is very similar to what I’ve read this far. The other issue is “factory” carbureted 700R4 applications used Carter carburetors which had a flat pull to the TV cable. The after market ones have an arch to the pull causing issues at WOT. I am going to play around with it some more and see what happens. Hat the thought of burning up and expensive new trendy.

I have had the displeasure of killing a 700R4 without proper throttle valve adjustment...So yes, improper adjustment does in fact make them unhappy slush boxes. You can't just pick any arbitrary hole and stick it, or she will be VERY unhappy (ha - see what I did there?). The correction kit gives the TV cable the proper offset from the throttle shaft centerline so you can get the cable to pull fully at WOT. @Ron is right - cable must be pulled FULLY at WOT. So you'll absolutely need the linkage correction kit for a Holley-style carb.

You'll definitely need the adapter on a Holley carb. On the factory setup with a factory carb I believe you pushed a button on the cable and opened the throttle to adjust it at wot. I've burned up a few with non factory setups. If I remember correctly there's a proceedure where you use a gauge in a test port and set the cable by pressure. I'll try to look that up later and post it if I can. I believe bthats the failsafe bway to do it.

Doesn’t TCI make an internal delete kit to eliminate the tv cable so you don’t have to deal with it?
Yes constant pressure valve body

I spoke with Lokar today as I have their throttle and trans setup on the engine. They say as long as I follow their setup instructions their kit will work correctly without the correction kits. Now I have to actually read instead of looking at pics!:D
