I am trying to figure out if the best direct swap for a my CJ5 would be a set of Scout 44's. I am planning on keeping the jeep spring under and it is currently running 34" LTB tires with a small lift. I have found a set of 44's and the seller does not know what they were pulled off. What should I look at to see if they are worth buying?

no d44 is a direct swap... you will need to narrow the axle or outboard the mounts for it to work...

i would check them out, it is pretty easy to tell what they are from, if you know what you are looking at...

I know it will not be the same width. They should be slightly wider and that will make my jeep more stable since I have the narrow track on that early CJ5. I was wondering if this is worth the effort because I have read that you have to adjust the caster angle to make it work. Is that true or will it work without doing this?

Since I cant really tell from your response... Im not talking about the axle width, Im talking about how the leaf spring perches are wider on the axle, so you will need to outboard them on the jeep. If you can weld and fabricate, this isnt really an issue...

depending on the d44 that you use, the caster might be an issue... scout d44s have 0* stock, so as long as you dont tip up the pinion, you will be ok... a fsj d44 has ~6* so it is a little better handling on the road...
