What can be done to better the brakes on a stock CJ7 with disc front and drum rear, without changing to disc in the rear. Right now I can stop but it takes some pushing. I am driving this one on the street alot amd wanted some input on improvments

Thanks for any help...

Regear the axles, then use the transmission for compression braking. My '77 is set up like yours, and I have no problem stopping quickly.

Just an echo of whats been said.
As light as CJs are, they usually stop very well.
If It iss manual brakes, I'd definitely look into an upgrade to power.
Replace the MC while doing that.
Check your rubber hose ends and make sure they haven't swelled, or are getting weak.
Finally change the brake fluid. If its been a while, that can actually offer surprising improvements.

If all that is done and its still not stopping, Then I'd check Calipers and wheel cylinders.

I'd agree with all that has been said above. I had a CJ with manual brakes and they stopped it very well. Even with 33s, I just needed a bit more pedal pressure.

Cheap upgrade with stock axles is a YJ booster and master cylinder

I got mine at the local junkyard for $35

doing this you will also need 2 adapters from the local napa to connect your stock brake lines to the yj master cylinder

Simply adding (or removing) a shim between the MC and firewall can make a noticable difference.

I installed a chevy dual diaphram booster and waggy MC and it stops real good with 37's.
