I picked up a D44 from a 79 F250 that's been converted from 8x6.5 to 5x5.5 and needs calipers. The knuckles are stock F250, unsure of which rotor and 5 lug hub assembly(but I suspect 76-85 F150 or Bronco) and that's about all I know about it.
Looking through the rockauto catalog,
I've found stock 79 F250 calipers, single and dual piston.
I've also heard chevy calipers because they are smaller and I may have clearance issues with 15" wheels
Master cylinder issues? Will I need a bigger/different MC?
This will end up in a YJ with a 8.8 rear.
Anybody been there, done that and can shed some light?

You need everything from the 5 lug ford dana 44, knuckles out. It is possible to swap up to the 8 lug on a 5 lug ford but not the other way.

Here is why, 5 lug rotors are smaller. Therefore the caliper brackets are smaller. The knuckles on the 5 lug are cast different and have a notch for the smaller caliper brackets. So that is why you cannot put the smaller caliper brackets on the f250 8 lug knuckles. Also the spindles and hub assemblies are different between the 5 and 8 lug.

Go back to 8 lug or swap on 5 lug knuckles

get rims with 3" or less backspacing

MC should be ok - trial and error will tell you

I was under the impression all it needed were new loaded calipers, rotors turned or replaced and hubs reinstalled?

i didn't see the pictures before. The only exception is the F-150 super cab front axle. look for a caliper for that truck. It had leaf springs and five lug.
