I saw that east coast gear has a kit, but I'm not ready to spend that kind of money. would one of the 8.8 kits that summit sells work? do you reuse your stock axle shafts? I'm not sure how these kits work, has anyone used a kit like that with stock shafts?

What size tires are you running? I've heard of 2 8.8 shaft breaking in my lifetime. I've been told someone at Dixie Run managed to break one under a 5.0 YJ last weekend on 37's. They are surprisingly stout out of the box. However if you are interested in the bolt on c clip eliminator kits like summit offers, I would contact the manufacturers directly to ensure fitment.

35s I'm wanting to do it to eliminate the mini spool I've managed to screw up the one in mine pretty good and wanted to go to something stronger in the long run

That's inconvenient, says a little bit about the factory shafts though. To my knowledge the c clip eliminator for factory shafts is usually for the fox body with the small bearings. It's worth a phone call if they list a manufacturer.

Called no dice. Gonna stick with a mini spool for now. I think part of my problems is I have 4.56 gears and the cross pin was ground down pretty good leaving some slop causing this. I've read you need a different cross pin and you have to install the locker and cross pin then the ring gear. Is this right? Also do you have one of those cross pins in stock? I'm calling tomorrow to order it and a couple other things I hope you got to.

I wonder if you could have set 10 housing ends installed on the axle and not loose any width. I think that would be the trick. Then you could pick up some cut to length 9" axle shafts and a locker and be good to go. You could even run 35 spline...

You'll have to run different brakes with set 10 ends, you can do a 9" torino end and set 20 bearing and keep the factory discs with a bigger bearing. Then you can do a 31 spline true chromoly shaft, or 35 spline if you want to go that route. That's how we usually build our kits in house.

I ran the notched pin in an 8.8 with 5.13s. Pin goes in carrier, then ring gear goes on. Once installed in axle, you turn the notch towards the shaft you're installing so that the axle can slide in far enought for the C clip. Install clip, seat axle, turn pin 180, install other axle, turn pin 90 and install retaining bolt. Never had an issue with it.

I know of 1 person running the C clip eliminator and he did it mainly for the extra with without spacers. Pretty sure his axle was ordered from ecgs that way. Ran 35s for a while, now 37s.

Well just got my mini spool and regular pin installed today. Started looking and the ring gear had already been shaved to fit a full pin.
