I'm looking to down size my rear Dana 60. I'd like to go with a Ford 9" for clearance but I want to stay 8 lug to match the 60 front. Someone told me that I can get chromo 8 lug shafts for a 9". Does anyone know who makes these?

No one makes an 8 lug 9" shaft. None of the axle blank mfrs make a 9" flange large enough, which is why none of the axleshaft companies can make/resell 8 lug 9" shafts.

8 lug adapter, or better yet...full float housing ends!

How much to the FF ends cost?

damn....

how much do the 8 lug adapters cost?

I'd say $1800-$2000 to do the swap you're wanting to do to gain 1.5-2 ground clearance. That's about what I was looking at when I figured it up.

it's FF

I would think a flange to bolt a 60 front spindle to would work well for the ff 9" conversion, especially on a budget.

Disclaimer: this is just a thought I had while reading this post, I have not tried this, don't know the measurements of any of the said parts, and have no intention of trying this, 5 lug works for me.

5 lug would work for me too if I could put 5 lug wheels on my 60 front

or.....have an 8lug and a 5 lug spare in the bed of the tow rig.....sounds a big cheaper to me

There's a set of FF 9" ends on Charlotte craigslist right now for $165. Search for ford 9 full floating hubs. Don't know if they'll work for you but figured I'd throw it out there.

yea...Looks like a smooth bottom dana 70 would be the best choice. I just really liked the idea of a 9" for weight and clearence.

I went through this about a year ago and found out that nobody can make adaptors that go from the ford 5 lug pattern to the old 8 lug pattern so I ordered shafts that were 5 x 4.5 and one machine shop was able to make the adapters for me. They're made of steel and, as far as I know, are one off. They also function as a 3" spacer on each side to make it match the width of the 60. I was worried about strength issues but so far so good. I've twisted the splines on my 31 spline alloy curry shafts but have had no probs with the adapters yet. I was talking to John from stazworks about it because I was going to run his wheels afterwards. He made the design and sent it to a local machine shop in what ever state they're in. I forgot by now. I think the adaptors were around $400 for the pair. The problem now is I banana a rear drive shaft every other run cause the pinion is so low on the 9". SO I'm deciding whether to build up a 70 or get a true hi9. I could build 2-3 dana 70's for the price the strongest true hi9 though.
Good Luck!!

And here is a FF 9 inch housing http://charlotte.craigslist.org/pts/1131882111.html
for $65 to go with those hubs.

If you look in the right places you can build a whole 9 inch axle for cheap but it would be 5 on 5 using race car parts not the 5 on 5.5 that ford used from the factory.

Wrong, I have a pair. They are just expensive and are two pieces.

If you have them then that's cool. All the machine shops I talked to said that some holes would "share" a wall, meaning that one or more holes would be shaped like a peanut and not have a complete wall at all. Because of that they didn't want to make them for liability reasons.

Means they weld the spindle on with chamber in them. Most are alot I got one that had almost 10* in them. looks like this / ---- / that helps explain it
