well here it is not done yet but getting closer. lol i bought this truck back in 2003 just as a get around truck while restoring my 72 blazer. it was trouble from day one. while bringing it home behind the blazer on a u haul tow dolly i was coming down the off ramp to get gas and tighten the straps. one of the straps came loose causing the other to come off. i heard a transfer truck blowing its horn kind of excessively noisy as to get someones attention ( mine ) so i turned to see what was up. i see this truck flying across the road not stopping for the stop sign and wedging itself in the bushes in the median. thought their breaks might have went out but then realized it was the truck i had just bought. i thought the truck was totaled but after i ran over to it locked the hubs (it was muddy) i jumped in crunk it up and drove up to the gas station. as i got out to check out the damage and realized there was nun that is when i realized it was gunna be a keeper. lol
this was a year later after beating it the whole time i finally decided to make it a good truck.
it had 300k miles on it and still ran great but was getting weak.
so i rebuilt it. .30 over comp cam nwor header and a holley 350 2bbl
So back to the story. after i put the motor in i took some time to break it in just doin light trail riding while i assembled my dual case set up which i used 2 2.28 to 1 cases with the all pro XXX cross member with tcase park brake. i then found some rear springs to run up front but i wanted a lil mor lift so i took the 3rd spring from a 85' s-10 with the 1500lb extra payload capacity spring pack and added it to the toyota rears up front. then i found a set of 91' chevy 2wd 1500 63" rear springs. my buddy gave me some 35s he had laying around and after fixing my driveshafts i went wheeling. here are some pics of that weekend. 1st 2 pics are before the 35s 3rd one is the last time i will ever ride without doors. had a very bad day and almost lost my foot! last pic is after i got my cast off.
so the story about my last day driving it without doors. we rode all day at housers lake had a great day. on the way home it started to rain a lil. i was having fun drifting around corners then i got to the last corner b4 i got to the house and really hung it out there. it got a little out of hand and realized i was headed for the ditch so i floor boarded it i made it through the ditch sideways before it started to bounce then about 20 ft on the other side of the ditch the truck decided it wanted to take a nap and laid down trapping my foot under the windshield post almost severing my big toe and breaking my foot. so after giving the doc all my money for fixing my foot it was time to fix the yota.
this pic was taken after fixing the rollover damage and installing 5" allpro front springs.
showing a buddy of mine how good the motor runs. got 3rd gear boiling the tires.
i went to pull a part looking for disc brake stuff for the rear. found out that a 96 nissan pathfinder has perfect setup for the rear of the yota. cost about 60 bucks and i had to turn the center hole out by 1/8" and the rotor fit perfect. then i had some 3/16" plate that i made the caliper mounts out of. the brakes work perfect with the proportioning valve bypassed.
