82 K5 suggestions

Ok got k5 with 350/350/208 combo trans has hard shifts and is only 3 speed auto wanting something diff not sure what would be good to swap into it without bunch of extra work any suggestions?? Gonna be DD and hauler when needed... Thanks open to all opinions except smartass ones!!! :lol:
 
I know where a SM465 and 205 is for sell. Same length, just find the clutch setup.
 
Sounds like you want OD since you said only 3spd.

A 700r is a th350 with a better 1st gear and OD hung on the back. Should bolt right up to the 208...came standad in 83 (maybe 84 cant remember) -> K5s so fit is easy.

IF you got his route, the 700 uses a TV cable not a kickdown cable, if you dont hook it up you burn up the tranny.
 
is sm465 as tough as 350 or 700?
 
SM465 is a manual 4spd (granny low is 6.55to one) I had one for years behind a 383 stroker. Never ran a skidplate cause it didn't need one! Yes they are tuff. I liked it a lot but I'm a clutch and stick guy.
 
465 is tougher than a 350 or a 700 or a th400 for that matter.
But it is a manual...with all the good and bad that implies.
 
Thanks alot... Im gonna think it over might go manual? Anyone know what could be causing the trans to hard shit and heat up to much? Also something grinding/clicking when its in angle in 4x4, sounds like tconverter hittin but its clearing could it be motor or trans mounts?? any help is much appreciated hope to see ya fellas at callalantee for toy run!
 
Check the fan against the fan shroud. Stop engine before checking.

The 78-84 frames were notorious for the tans/tcase skid wallowing out the frame mounts and allowing the skid to clap back and forth.
 
kinda sounds like it coming from the trans/engine aint had chance to crawl under it will let ya know what i come up with tho thanks for all yalls input im sure everything mentioned on here needs to be looked at i just purchased this thing and it needs some tlc!
