i found a 85 toyota truck that im interested in. but the only problem is if you hold the rpms at 2000 it studders. if u give it more gas it goes away. what could be causing this?
possible EGR not closing, possible lean condition ( lean miss ) could be fuel filter related, could be weak fuel pump. Could be cracks in the intake tube from the MAF to the throttle body or other vacuum lines cracked broken.
could also be ignition coil breaking down, when mine had the mid RPM break up I replaced the coil with an Accel Super Stock, work well, and ran much better.
Like complete wiring harness? Lots of work. Front axle seals aren't too bad, but while you're there, just rebuild the whole thing. (Bearings, hub seals Trunnion bearings etc.) You can get kits from www.MarlinCrawler.com or www.Trail-Gear.com or the like. Can't remember what I paid for my kit from Marlin, but then I did vented rotor upgrade at the same time and it was 5+years ago.
im not sure i was lookin at this 85' and acouple shops said there was a short somewhere and supposidly thats why it was running like it was. and as for the front end when you drive it it slings gear oil all over the left fron rim.
A short ought to be easy enough to find. Certainly much easier than replacing the harness. Also I think Marlin has a new severe duty front axle seal. There is also a brass or bronze bushing in the axle tube behind the seal that positions the axle shaft correctly in the seal that might be worn down allowing the axle to ruin the new seal. Mine need both sides as they both still leak but it'll get them when I switch to longfieds.
