I need to replace my front rotors on my 85 4runner and yes it has locking hubs. I did pull it apart, but not knowing how to seperate the hubs from the rotors...then do they have to be pressed back in? Any recomendations on shops close to High Point?
Actually you can just pound out the lug studs from the rotor/hub. That's how they are held together. Just be sure to put a nut (not lugnut) on them to protect the threads. An easy way to reinstall them is to put the whole thing into on the the wheels you took off and pound the studs in that way. If you've got the money now is a good time to upgrade to vented rotors. Get rotors from a 80's land cruiser and calipers and pads from an IFS Runner. If you get the calipers from a 4 cyl model you won't have replace the master. If you use V6 calipers, you'll have to upgrade the master too.
Had the brakes done and they ended up replacing 10 of the 12 lugs due to trashing them pounding them out. It was worth the money not to deal with them.
Better check to make sure they aren't a different thread pitch than the originals. Everywhere I checked gave me the pitch from a newer model. Fortunately my neighbor had lug nuts to fit. I just labeld the studs and nuts so I know they are the different ones. (Only three on one side).
