Truck- 86 4wd auto 22re 4.10's

short story : went to wheeling at lake houser. i was the first wheeler there and went alone . all was going fine till i wanted/ decided i wanna get in the creek. crossed the widest mud hole then the wall broke :(. passenger side submerged ecu soaked water in cab. blah blah
let it dry out cleaned and had my board fixed.

*this was the big creek at the bottom of the power line trail if you come straight down following the lines.

Symptoms: will start with starting fluid or some other method. changed to spare afm same thing starts but wont stay running as soon as vapor/fuel are gone. board seem's to be fine it's clean and had a broken diode near the batt fixed.

if someone has another 86-89 truck/runner and doesn't mind coming by and helping pm me.

location: Forest City NC 28043. this is why im saving up for pane :flipoff2:

even went and duct tapped the stock intake tube to make sure it was sealed. I'm not new to toyota's at least not the 22re. I am stumped though. so while working on this im installing all my other goodies i just got.

check the EFI fuse in the box under the hood

checked afm (4crawler) cleaned and resoldered a diode, dried etc.. check fuses under hood box is good. water wasn't that high just mostly in the passenger side floor board. i was at an angle. about 1/4 of my 33" pass side tire was under water. no water in diff's. lights works. when day light gets around im gonna check the cor under the dash where the ecu plugs in. it'll run if i feed it starting fluid or something along that line.

pulled my OCR from behind the dash. opened it up, checked the resistance, and powered it with a 13v power supply. from battery to FC it opens and closes, so im going to guess i can rule this out. and recheck pump.afm.ecu.

think i've figured it out. opened the tank and looks like bog water got in some how. working on getting it cleaned and dried out, gonna put fresh gas in. then change my alt and have the other rebuilt for 100amps. I cycled the pump outta the tank, using a large ice cream container,13v power supply and some not so boggy looking gas. pump works so i'm gonna rule out everything else till i try fresh gas.

Your best bet with the alternator is to do a GM 1 wire swap. You probably won't find one at a parts store that works, (I went through 3) and not sure if they even have upgrade kits for your current one. (they didn't for mine)

the local alt/starter shop is trust worthy. for 60$ im not gonna complain, but once i run across a cs144 alt i'll swap it in. right now 100amps or even the stock alt will work fine. im not running any lights or systems. haven't even gotten my winch yet still doing it old fashioned with a cum a long.

when it comes to stuff like this, forget the parts store . trail gear and couple others make the bracket. but with the cs144, couple washers and your golden. there's a read up and details on pirate4x4.

as far as my current problem- turned out to be lots of water in the gas. pumped out over 12gals of gas/water , now i've gotta clean the tank. and then it should start right back up after i add some heet to it.

Probably also want to find out how the water got into the tank and fix that too.

1 of 2 ways. Bad gas cap seal, or the fuel pump/sending unit holes. After i take the tank off and clean it out, gonna apply some rtv/silicon around them when install them. Might even have somebody with a mig/tig weld on, a full custom length fill spout.

Did you get it running correctly yet? Since you had water in the tank, it might be in your entire fuel system now. You might deal with rust issues in your fuel pump very soon also if the water made its way into the system.

it's up and running. like nothing ever happened. cleaned the tank out, put the pump back unhooked the line from the filter and brought it back ran fresh gas through it , changed the filter, hooked it back up. dumped 2 cans of seafoam and it started back up. shut it off and rtv'd the pump and sending unit holes and bolted it shut. next is to bend the tubing for my snorkel. then figure out how i wanna run a front bumper.

Now that you mention it, what does everyone think of seafoam? and whats your favorite method of installing?

I have always ran the truck, and let the brake booster vacuum line draw it in, about have can, then shut it off for fifteen min, then started it up. Smokes a POORING!!!

it'll work that way. but what i do is. pour it in the intake while revving the engine at a steady speed. if you loosen the intake from tb a lil bit you can dump it right in. then when i get over half the bottle. I open up some more and pour the rest till it chokes. wait about 15 mins same result.

during every 2nd oil change, run it in the crank case. drain then fill up with new oil/filter. you can also use it with Heet in your gas tank. which is what i did after i rinsed out the tank. If you live where they will call the cops. ask one of the sales ppl at the parts store if you can do it behind their building. if their into cars/trucks/bikes they wont mind.

update: Fuel pump is working and squirting fuel, but it seems the injectors aren't letting it fire up. will turn and crank over. IF it all possible someone who is near or close to my location. come by and check my afm and ecu. I'm by passing the OCR by using a 30amp relay, fuse and a toggle switch to turn on the pump.

I would, but mine is a 92. All the electrical is different. Check the FSM on ncttora.com and put your ohmmeter to the AFM.

thinking after being underwater for a couple hrs then sitting over night draining out. it's prob toast got i have fuel and starting fluid will work till the vapor is gone.

btw I have the FSM thats one of the first things i downloaded when i had my old 89. i'm doing away with the ocr, and just wiring it up to come on with a switch under the dash. (Fuel pump) I'll buy a new ecu Tuesday. and try to find a 82 supra afm .
