I need a lil help with my 87 blazer. It was tbi but was stripped and converted to carburated. It has an Eldebrock 600. Having trouble at extreme angles. any ideas to correct would be greatly appreciated.

holley makes a truck avenger carb thats OK but ur best bet would be to go back fuel injected. im running the truck avenger on my 84 and iv never been able to get a carb to run at extreme angles like it does on flat ground. although it does do better than most carbs. as for your edelbrock, i tried every thing possiable on my buddys and it would still stutter when accelerated

Was there a reason you ditched the TBI? Going back would solve your issues and tbi is extremely simple to work on with parts readily available. I've heard mixed reviews about the truck avengers (never owned one), it may be better, but it won't beat injection.

agreed its nothing like injection but tuned right it beats any other carb iv ever ran on steeper inclines.

i'd go back to the tbi setup, but if you gotta have a carb, a old-school quadrajet is about the best for angle tolerance. the edelbrock(carter afb-style) carbs are ok, but best on flat stuff, angles and hard drops don't agree with them well.

My quadrajet wouldn't go up steep hills, thought about reversing it to put fuel at the primaries but then I converted to propane.

Goining back to tbi is out of the question... already trashed all the parts, even the computer. I bought it after it was converted to card. I how is it working for you Moldman05? Do you still have the power you had with the quadrajet?

I felt like I lost a little power at first. The engine runs alot smoother and never quits on the steepest grades. Oil stays clean. My burb sits for months at a time and now the fuel doesn't go bad. I changed heads and went with 64cc combustion chambers and 2.02 intake valves along with some porting and bigger cam to take advantage of the higher octane rating of propane. It now has more power and rpms and loves lots of ignition advance. I get 4 to 5 hours of trail time with one 8 gallon tank or less than one hour on high way.

That settles it.... Im goin to propane...dd you build your kit or buy? I have seen kits on the internet for $750-$900 bux... URE closes in DEC so i will have all winter to tinker with it...

I bought a used kit from a NC4X4 member for about a third of what you posted. That was a while back. I added a tee fitting so I can keep 2 tanks hooked up. I use one at a time but it only takes a moment to open and close tank valves. Aluminum tanks are easy to handle but I have a couple of steel also. I have a vacuum shut of valve, works fine. Installation was pretty easy the propane carb mounts on the quadrajet throtttle plate so the linkage doesn't change. You need to splice into the heater hose for the evaporator unit. Hook up of the hoses, I closed the spark plug gap some, advanced the timing and it fires up every time.

Check the for sale section, there is a propane kit there for sale. There are also two TBI systems for sale too.
