87 Grand Wagoneer

I have a 87 Grand Wagoneer with the 360 motor. I have a stripped bolt hole on the block( the bolt goes through the alternator bracket and through the left side of the water pump) it was a 3/8 bolt in the hole and a 7/16 bolt is the hole size.

I am wondering i i can tap the hole with a 1/2 and use a 7/16 or a 3/8 heli-coil without id really damaging the block or even cracking it?

If you are careful you should be able to do this without any harm to the block. If you use a heli coil remember to use the proper tap as they do not use standard taps.
