Ok so I picked up a 87 yj in a trade..

Plans are FI 4.0, 42re, 231, over head console, updated gauges, four links f/r (30/35.. all free from a zj).. pretty much looking to make a weekend cruiser/light duty wheeler.. 31's at most, so pretty well stock. I didn't care for how the last yj we owned rode, which is why it's getting coil springs. I may end up putting different axles in it if I come across the right deal, but I'm not looking to spend big money on what is an impractical vehicle for our family, just a project to have fun building and riding around. (So don't tell me I'm polishing turds, i know it, and it doesn't need an Atlas or a 6.0 or 1 tons lol)
I'm hoping to start on it this week.
 
Yeah if I can cover across the right deal on a pair out of an XJ I will do that.. I should at least put 3.55 or 3.73 gears in it, maybe 4.10s..
 
Most come 3.55 and if your only going to run 31s then I wouldn't spend the money on gears. I've ran 33s with 3.55s for years even does well crawling around Kodak or Daniel or at the flats.
 
Yeah, 3.55 is common and so is 3.08 which is what it's got right now.. some with row package were 3.73 although more expensive being less common
