Just bought 87 yota with 33-12.5-15 an would like to gear it was told to get 4runner front an rears that they had 4.88s any info or parts would be nice thanks

4.88s were a stock option for runners. However, they are pretty rare. If you even have a thought about going with a bigger tire, I would suggest 5.29 gears. If you cant find some thirds that are already geared, I (along with almost everybody else on this board) highly recomend www.eastcoastgearsupply.com. They have the best service around and know Toyotas well.

im running 33x12.5 with stock 4.10's. it's not that bad it's never going to be fast lol, but i can pass when i want to. getting rolling isn't hard and i can hold 35-40 up hills (mines auto) going up though asheville's hills was fun i was chugging along with the big trucks but passing them . zuk @ gearinstalls has alot of info.

Thanks for the info just tryin to stay cheep dont want any bigger then 35 thats why im just askin bout the 4.88s know they would be good for 33s or 35s. Just makin a daily driver

you didn't say which transmission you have - manual or auto.
If its auto, go straight for the 5.29s. The difference is worth every penny.

Remember, the 22re makes the best power between 3k & 4.5k rpms. Better to be overgeared than under.

One other note - if you get "factory" 4.88s, the rear cannot have a locker installed or be regeared w/o replacing the whole carrier.

Oh and just so you know what you're looking for, it's not just *any* 4runner gears. They were only found in a/t trans vehicles that came w/ factory 31" tires.

Unless they were swapped they are most likely 4.10 which is the most common with 5spd 22re yotas. The easiest way to check is the pinion color code. Well not the easiest but the most sure way. Theres a chart on 4cralwer of the breakdown. Dont trust what the vin says it can be wrong. For example my trucks vin decodes to have 4.30s but actually has 4.10.
