89 700r4 no reverse

just got th truck on a trade, story is one PO was cutting donuts and accidentally hit reverse to soon and it never worked again?? do i need another tranny or could it be something with linkage or tv cable? I'm not a chevy guy, so I'm just going off what i have found online. thanx.

does it have park?
it probably broke the sunshell or reverse planet, could have broke the center support. the best thing to do is drop the pan and see what's in it.
