I just got one that is rusted. Is there a trick to getting the drums off. I cleaned the rust off of everything but it is still stuck on there. I hit it the drums with a BFH and knocked all the rust out but they still won't budge. They spin freely, actually really well. I can hear the drums and pads rubbing. Please educate me.

try a G.B.F.H.

Thanks guys I will get out the really BFH and some heat tonight. The wife tried to come into the garage last night but quickly left in a full retreat when she saw all that old rust dust in the air. I think I will be taking them outside next time.

BFH works, I have also had luck using a screwdriver to loosen the adjuster and taking some of the tension off the shoes.

Since I am never keeping the backing plates when I take the drums off, I normally use a pry bar between the drum and the plate to give it some motivation while hitting the drum with a hammer.

It's working perfectly for my Rockwells.. 2 down, 2 to go.

BFH!!!! WHAT IS WRONG WITH YALL??? pop out the little rubber plug at the bottom of the backing plate and turn the adjuster screw with a screw driver or small pry bar to loosen it up then just slide the drum off...if it is rusted to the axle put some pbblaster on it to break down some of the rust and you should be able to tap it off gently with a small hammer

I used the Really BFH and it came right off. Looked for a plug and didn't see it. I cut off the e-cable too. Thanks for the tips.

I decided to edit this since I have been working on this thing all night. I had the same problem on the other side but the BFH took care of that. once they were loose I proceded to cut off the perches and Shock mounts. Then I moved to the front and started taking off things and cutting the radius arms for future mock up. I ran out of cut off wheels and sawzall blades. Another trip to lowes tomorrow and I chould be able to finish the cut up portion. Once I get I get every thing mocked up I am going to replace Brake pads and rotors. Won't be long before I get these things under the Cherokee.
