I finished up my rear disk brake conversion this weekend. Here is the story. My '72 model axle has the small outer bearing with a 3 5/16x2" flange pattern. There is not much in the way of aftermarket brakes for this application. After a trip to the Pull-a-part with a tape measure and some wrenches I found a set up that I thought would work for $35. The assy. came off of a '92 Grand Marque. It uses a regular caliper for the service brake and a small drum inside the rotor for the park brake. This is very similar to an Explorer except it has the small pattern on the caliper bracket/backing plate. I had to trim the round part off of the bottom of my housing to allow the brackets to mount flush. Otherwise this was just a bolt on operation. The rotors were redrilled to fit my 5x5.5 pattern and the center pilot was opened up to fit the axle. A set of new pads was $15 from Autozone. Then I had to adapt the metric fittings on the hose ends to my standard brake lines. I still have to figure out how I'm going to connect up the parking brake cables. But for the most part she is done and has been test driven. Not bad for $50 and a little fab work, as compared to $400-500 for the same pieces from the parts vendors.
