anyone using one of the old fords with a international engine as a tow rig? i'm contemplating one and wondering if it will be a dog pulling my rig through the mountains, also i heard 20+ mpg on these, any truth to that?

Me(normally aspirated SRW 4x4) & Bigwoody(turboed DRW CC 4x2)...

Not sure what he's getting towing... mines about 14mpg with 7k# (trailer & Jeep) up to 17mpg empty. When compared to the 8mpg my brothers 2500HD 8.1L gets pulling the same load... I'll take approx. 90-100% better mileage and pocket the difference between our 2 payments! ($3k vs his $40K) :D Sure to be a dog in the mountains (without a turbo), but the bottom line is it *will* pull it... I'm in NO hurry! :flipoff2:

FWIW, the Navistar diesels came along about mid-80s...
