Help! My step-son's '91 YJ w/2.5 4cylinder wont idle. In fact, it races pretty high RPMs. Troubleshot via Haynes manual(worthless). Changed TPS switch. Still doing the same. I'm at a loss. Anyone know what the problem could be?

change the o2 sensor

if it is distributor, the timing can still be adjusted sometimes... I would have said to try either the TPS or maybe the IAC, but its really hard to say what it could be... is it running real rich or lean, that you can tell?

Already replaced TPS. IAC is next. Have to order.

so what exactly is it doing? is just idling extremely high or wont run at idle period? also is it auto or manual tranny? have you double checked the timing to see what it is at?

what happens when you rev on the throttle?

is there a vacuum line hooked to the throttle body or the intake that might have a leak?

It was taching up tp 4000rpm's. Found the problem though. Intake manifold gasket. Three bolts missing. All better now.
