919.4x4 "is a small town club down in Holly Springs NC," started by Travis Smith, aka NC919.4x4_XJ.

In September, it was brought to the club's attention that someone had spraypainted "919.4x4" on a rock and tree on the Daniel trail at Uwharrie National Forest. The post was deleted from their forum and when the graffiti was brought up again a little over a week ago, Travis had this to say:

Hey guys,

I was just told about this thread, i don't get on "The garage" section often but like one of these guys said we were being young and dumb. I know it's not an excuse, and it wasn't a smart idea but as soon as i can get aride out to uwharrie i will head up there and remove it myself or ask a fellow member to do so.

Sorry for being such jackass' and i really hate to see the club get bashed like this, it sucks that we've gotten ourself a bad name now but i would like to apologize on behalf of the club & whoever did it.

If y'all need to, you can remove the club from the club section or do whatever needs to be done.
if things could clear up and blow over, it'd be much appreciated.

Thanks,
Travis

Sounds pretty mature, right? Except when biggoofy called NC919.4x4_XJ out, again, about his post from September being deleted, Travis feigned ignorance and then dissembled to make it seem like he was just getting a notification that a thread had been deleted. Travis was less interested in getting it fixed than in making excuses and trying to delete all mention of the incident. He even requested we make their forum private.

I have to deal with it, and figure out a way to drive almost 2 hours, out of my way, not even to wheel, to remove some stupid paint off a rock.

NC4x4 has provided 919.4x4 with their own forum since March of this year. As with all the other club forums, we don't ask anything of the clubs other than the forum remain active and all members abide by the rules of the board.

The purpose of this thread is, primarily, to call the club and their leadership out for not taking responsibility for this incident. As is mentioned several times in the other thread, we all make mistakes. The actions, when it came time to step up, spoke volumes about the character of this club and its members. No follow up, no attempt to straighten this mess out. This is not the way to handle or learn from mistakes.

I feel it is just as important to publicly thank the folks who took the time to go to Daniel this past Saturday and clean the paint off the rock and the tree, when 919.4x4 would not. Chris and Alicia Marshall, Zack and Kelly Dent, and Paul Poplin... THANK YOU!

Nice work to the ones that took care of the mess and for the others...

thanks douchebags. i can't wait till assholes like you shut down the other areas I enjoy. please do us all a favor and disband immediately. that way the forest service and other private parties don't get the impression that clubs behave like this every weekend.

well done Trailhugger, this needed to be public.

hey that green axial scorpian sitting on the rock looks like my old one i sold . yeah guys dont vandlize our parks .

I think this probably could have been better handled behind closed doors... bashing them out in the open doesnt look good for us, or them. But this did need to be addressed, so I do understand. I just think it might have been better handled in the garage or private messaging etc...

That said, it happens, it may seem harmless at the time but its absolutely not. Nothing is harmless in the case of public land use, it can and will be held against us as a community and there will be nothing to do to prevent it. It only takes a spark to start a fire.

Like snappy said, it was blown off. There's a 10-page thread in the garage and there were multiple messages and posts in various threads in the 919.4x4 forum that were all ignored and/or deleted by Travis. There was plenty of opportunity to handle it and no effort was made to address the vandalism. Not only that, other people spent time cleaning it up. Still, photos were posted of the clean-up and Travis has been on the board since and... no follow up. No "thanks", nothing. That's why it is now out in the open.

^^^ That is awesome. And thanks to those that made the effort to clean up after others to protect the sport!

This will be interesting to watch. Sad part was the club wasn't even the ones who cleaned it up was some of the good
Members on the board.

Like seriously, we are very immature...

Please show us how you helped in any way to clean up the mess. Show us how you contacted other members to clean up the mess. What did you do to clean up the mess?

No follow up, no thanks?! we've already spoke about this past weekend
and me attending to my GF's family issues. And i was sent multiple PM's
with people saying "Thanks in advanced" where i was able to attend to every one
who helped do the clean up. and i was able to SAY THANKS.
