Update:90 XJ purchase

Does a 92 Jeep Cherokee have a unibody? If so, is that a good or bad thing? The rig will be used as a dd and light wheeling. Any/all comments appreciated.
Flame suit on.

x2, all XJs are unibodys. They're great for mild to moderate wheeling. You can stiffen up the frame if you want to get a little more crazy. Be sure to put rock sliders on the top of your to-do list. You don't want to damage the rocker panels on your DD.

i have always had CJ,YJ, and TJ's so an XJ will be a new experience. I thought I remembered that a unibody was shi****.

Thanks for the replies! Happen to know what axle combo comes standard? I am thinking D30 up front and D35 in the rear.

Thanks Chris!

UPDATE 12/22/10: Decided to pick up a 1990 Jeep Cherokee Limited

-One owner, dealer serviced, 138K

The only thing I see defective is some of the door/rear bumper moulding needs to be reattached. I changed the VCG too.

Anything special to look out for as far as maintenance? Looks like previous owner did everything.

Let the modding begin!

Check all your bushings, tie rod ends, motor mounts, tranny mount, etc. Be sure to lube all greasable fittings. Other than that there's not much to look out for. These are very reliable vehicles!
