jeep started right up this morning. went to leave and it wouldn't start. it was really hard to get the key in and hard to get it to unlock the steering wheel then almost impossible to turn forwards. now to get the key out i have to force it back and jerk the wheel to lock but if i put any pressure on it the wheel unlocks. im thinking the cylinder is messed up or maybe the whole column.

I'm stuck I can't get the lock cylinder out.... This is what I got so far

either jam key into it or look at new one, and pry on that tab you see on the new one that has to clear to come out or go in. that sucks the way its stuck

there is a tab inside the column that needs to be depressed. 90 and prior have a torx bolt that needs to be removed. it could be the ignition switch either. mine did that and i forced it and it would start, run, but the "on" stuff wasnt on.. (radio, turn sigs, etc, gauges worked though) I just pull-a-parted a whole column and put my lock cyl in it.

Where is this tab at? When I could get the key in it before I tore the column apart everything powered up no problem. It's a 92 so no torx bolt I've taken every bolt out that I saw so if it is just a tab holding it I can't find it or have over looked it some how
