My little 2wd, 1993, Dakota, AT, V6, with throttle body.
I crank her upon a chilly morning. I put her in DRIVE and head down the road. Shortly thereafter, all hell breaks loose. The V6 sputters, pops, coughs, chugs. I let off the accelerator, and engine returns to idle RPM, yet any more gas, and it commences to pop, bang, cough.
I slip her into NEUTRAL kill the engine, then restart.
All is well. Down the road we go. No more problems.

any thoughts?

Fuel filter?

The filter is new. But trash could have clogged it again. Heck, for that little $$$, I'll change it again.
What gets me is, it's also related to temp. Once the engine gets warm...No problems.

when is the last time you did a FULL tune up ?

Cap wires, rotor and plugs ?

Cold morning startup, will develop a little condensation in the engine compartment till the engine full heats up, the moisture will short old and worn ignition components.

use quality parts, junk form AZ and AA ain't gonna last long, been there done that, honestly, OEM igniton parts are your best bet.

Hrmmmmm. I will check that. The fuel filter is one of AA's finest. So it's a definite look again.
Replaced the cap, rotor and wires 18 months ago. And EGR in the spring '07.

I will check all those things again.

Thanks y'all. I appreciate it.

This problem is quite irritating.

bad muffler bearing if it's stuck it won't allow the engine to torque up correctly

My 92 Dakota w/318 magnum and chipped was doing almost the same thing turned out to be coolant sensor.
