I just bought a 93 1500 4x4 suburban that has a gm performance crate 350 that has 70000 miles on the motor and a 4l60e and rear that came from Jasper that have 10000 on them. paid 2000 for the truck which I thought was a good deal. The truck came from the factory with 3.73 gears and a rear locker, the tire size was 245/75/16. The truck now has 265/75/16 tires on it. My question is, are the tires on the truck now too big for the stock gearing? Or, should I plan on stepping back down to the stock tire size? My plans for the truck is using it to tow my jeep. I will flat ow it for now until I can find a good single car trailer down the road.

You should be fine as is. I run that same size tire on my Yukon with 3.73's and its still got the factory engine and trans in it. I tow my jeep on an 18' trailer no problem. Just dont use OD while towing. The 4l60e will not last long at all if you use the od while towing anything. I would also add an external trans cooler for safety.

That is what I thought. I konw alot of guys up here use them to tow with just wanted to get an opinion. I planned on putting a trans cooler on it and a deeper pan. I also planned on swapping out the rear springs either a pair 2500 burb springs or a pair of 1ton chevy springs if they would fit. to help with the rear squating while pulling a loaded trailer.

All I have on mine is set of load carrier shocks from auto zone. They were like 60 bucks. Helped out a ton and still rides decent. It never really sagged too bad even with the load carriers. My trailer when loaded is pretty heavy and never squated bad at all. Just make sure what ever trailer you buy has brakes. Thats the one big downfall on those is the brakes suck
