Is there anything different about a 94 Jeep 4.0 that would cause problems putting it into an 89 Jeep CHerokee?... I.E. wiring harness, mounts, etc.

Yes, the 94 is a high output, Chrysler ignition and fuel injection system. The 89 uses a Renix ignition and fuel injection system, they are not compatible. You can however, put the 94 short block in the 89 and just reuse all the original Renix intake, fuel injection, wiring harness and accessories. Do some Google searches or check out Naxja, there is a ton of info on doing this type of motor swap.

you can use jsut the short block, or you can make swap the HO engine in the renix vehicle with a TPS adpater. I did this (91/95 HO into my 1990 XJ). You use all the electronics ands sensors from the 88 vehicle (computer, distributor, flexplate, TPC, CPS, etc,etc...) Youl will have to bootyfab a TPS adapter (NAXJA link) or buy the HESCO part. This allowed me to use HO intake/TB/header in the 1990 XJ.
