Ok so found out hard way at family gathering my front axle on my suburban isn't working thermal actuator is culprit! Ok so I go to fish this morn and awful pop noise in front every couple of feet look under truck and find the cv short shaft has come out of hogs head somehow and I can pull it further out and move it back and forth what's caused this and is there a fix without tearing axle apart? I have a image I uploaded on here for reference

Just put 740$ in the front and now this to happen has me ready to burn it down!!! Any help would be appreciated my company mechanic said gentle persuasion should get it to slide back in but no Bueno I tried

Anybody?

Not a clue but I would guess that the shaft is held in with a snap ring and that snap ring is broke. Really just need to pull the CV shaft and pull the axle shaft to see whats going on. Haven't ever messed with the Chevy stuff so no clue really just a guess.

That is correct, there is a circlip on the end of the inner shaft that must have popped out or broke (just like an axle shaft on a front wheel drive car). Undo the CV shaft and that inner shaft will pull right out, there should be a circlip on the end of the shaft. If not, there should be and it most likely broke. I would pull the long side tube off and try to find it then replace it. Once replaced the inner shaft can just be re-seated with the pop of a hammer.

That's what it was put everything back together as it should be but when went to test drive I had a popping noise that gets louder and more violent at higher speeds and up hills when on throttle even at 10 mph not sure what's going on my mech says transmission output shaft to tcase is slippingbut I swear it's in front diff!

I feel like the shaft still isn't all the way into the hogs head I'll post pics of gap still in shaft to housing

Opened up rear diff and piniOn is missing 3 teeth may be a reason for popping looking for a axle now
