94 Toyota pickup starter trouble

I just got a 94 toyota pickup v6 3.0 automatic and it has been sitting for at least 6 years not cranked or anything. I have changed the oil, oiled the cylinders, replaced the ignition coil, spark plugs, spark plug wires, battery and starter. It turned over when I would knock the old starter, but now that I have put the new starter in it just clicks and will not turn over at all. I have had the starter checked and it tested good and I checked to make sure it was getting power through the relay and everything which it was. I can not figure it out so if there is anybody that might be able to help me out it would be greatly appreciated. thanks
 
Check and clean your grounds and also the battery cable prob just not getting enough current flow.
 
Along the same lines... IIRc the starter is grounded through it's connection to the bellhousing/engine etc. So if is is not really well connected on there you won't get anything.
Also FYI, teh aftermarket starters for these trucks tend to be pretty crappy, they will eventually fail - if teh old one was the OE, keep it and rebuild it for later.

Why did you replace the old starter?
 
I replaced it cause it was not turning over every time only every now and then when we would tap it with something. It was the same starter that came on the truck so I figured it would need to be changed
 
If you got that starter from anywhere but the dealer then it's likely a bad starter right out of the box. I have an 89 with the same 3.0 and a stick and I went through 4 starters before finally putting up the money for the dealer one.
Even though I warrantied the starters every time and they worked on the test rigs at the store they would randomly NOT work on my truck. I think they had bad spots in the windings in the motor itself that when it would magically stop in that position the starters wouldn't work. It was costing me more time in changing starters than it was worth to keep getting the crappy Advance ones. I feel even dumber for returning the original toyota one as a core after finding out that it usually only takes replacing the brushes or contacts in most cases and get them back to original performance. I got really good at push starting it though. I sucked having to worry about parking in a good position to push start my truck if it needed it. Good luck with it!
 
Thanks for the help guys it has to be the starter cause I have checked and cleaned everything twice. I am really wishing I would have got on here before I went and bought the new one cause I turned the old one in for the core charge and from what I am gathering from the in put is that I should be kicking my self in the but for that but thanks for the help you learn as you go sometimes.
