94 YJ clutch replacement

I am replacing the clutch on my 94 YJ 4cly. First how do you get the shifter out of the transmission and there is an exhaust cross over under the transmission. Will the transmission clear the exhaust when you pull it back or do you have to drop the exhaust?

I believe the shifter comes off by pushing the lock plate down and turning counter clockwise. Not sure about the exhaust, because i moved mine to cross under the oil pan.

I remember having to drop the exhaust pipe to get it out the first time, I then had it moved to in front of the oil pan, for better clearance.

And yes the shifter comes out when you push down and rotate half a turn.

A blue wrench is your friend in this case. Go back with high heat anti-seize, or deep brass nuts.
