Ok, guys this problem just came upon me today..

So, about 15 miles after I got gas my jeep just started losing power it felt like a huge gust of wind was hitting me. I would have the gas all the way down and it would.. studder? I talked to a guy at autozone he said it could possibly be water in the gas, so I bought some HEET water remover and lucas fuel cleaner and added to the tank. I let it sit for a little bit then drove it about 20 miles and it still was doing the same thing. I checked all the spark plugs they look fine, so do the wires.
One of the weird things is it only happens when the jeep is warmed up, I can run it hard and it will act just fine until its warmed up then it just loses power and starts studdering. It usually does it under a load like going up a hill also pretty much only happens when above 2.5k rpms. Another thing is when I have the gas to the floor and its suddering like crazy barely staying above 30 going up a hill it occasionally backfires into the intake. It also idles fine no problems idling, I can also rev the engine up to 4-5k rpms and it does fine. It's only when its under a load. I did some research and loss of power could be because of a clogged cat but I don't think its that because exhaust comes out fine and the jeep doesn't start overheating, the cat doesn't glow either..

If theres any other info ill remember ill add it.
Thanks guys!
I have the 2.5l Engine if that helps

So as of now im getting the code 51 which means a lean air fuel ratio mixture..
I've checked and cleaned the TPS and IAC sensors.. didn't help anything.
Also when I hold the pedal at a certain rpm it will flutchuate it sometimes go up a thousand rpms and drop down another thousand really fast.. Which it exactly how it it seems when driving at high rpms and it losing power. It doesn't do this at idle though.. I let it idle for a little bit and didn't notice it change fluctuate except once but it was very slight probably 100rpms or less.

Update:
Ok, well I ended up removing the gas tank and cleaning it out a few weeks ago and that seemed to fix the problem for a couple of weeks.
Now it's happening again but not as often. The weird thing is it only misses when i'm accelerating under 2500 rpms. It also will barley accelerate with the pedal to the floor when under 2500rpms.
But as soon as it gets a little above 2500 rpms the jeep will finally start going faster. It also has only backfired through the intake a few times so it rarely happens.

I was also still getting the Learn air fuel mixture. I disconnected the O2 sensor and disconnected my battery to see if it that would change anything and it didn't.

I bought a new fuel filter last night and am hoping to install it this weekend. Maybe it could not be getting enough gas? I'm not too sure where to go from there..

how old is the fuel filter? if you haven't changed it recently, i would start there. also check fuel pressure at the rail and see where it is at before and after changing the filter.

This points pretty heavily towards the TPS to me, though t be fir I have exactly ZERO experience with a 2.5...

I know yu said you cleaned the TPS, but it would be ideal if you had a friend with same engine and known good to swap on and see if it goes away.

The fact that it only does it after warming up also points to some sensor signal problem as it is likely in open loop until tstat opens.

It's probably never been changed, i'll check the fuel pressure later tonight.

Yeah, I have about a quarter tank left of this gas and im going to refill somewhere else and see if the gas was the problem if not I might just go out and buy a new tps.

Any update? I've had a 4.0 ford explorer (and an acura integra) do exactly the things you listed above, until I changed the spark plug wires.

I'm guessing it was the gas.. It hasn't done it since I refilled. My check engine light is still on and comes on after driving for a mile. I think it's still running lean but I haven't had time between work and school to check it out. Maybe this weekend ill get the light to go off.

I suspect the O2 sensor maybe throwing that code. Have you ever replaced the one you have?
