95 4 runner with the 3.0 in it, the freeeze plug popped out of the passenger side cylinder head. you can reach your hand back there and stick it in the hole so i know its the lower plug. my question is about fixing it. i keep hearing its easier to pull the motor then take the head off. is this true? anybody have any tips on fixing this the easiest way possible? not so much the cheapest route, if i have to buy new gaskets to be it. but is really pulling the motor out necessary?
thanks for the feedback

Honestly, unless you know the history of the vehicle and KNOW that the head gaskets have been changed (they are an issue n the 3.0) I'd do head gaskets anyway.

Given that the freeze plug has probably corroded out, I doubt the rest of them or the head gaskets are in reasonable shape and would expect to replace all.

If you plan on keeping this vehicle for awhile, Yank the motor, do ALL the freeze plugs and head gaskets, timing belt and water pump and thermostat and roll on.

you have to ask yourself... why did it come out?

I'm with Kevin, plan to yank it and fully investigate.

thanks guys. i will start pulling it apart next week sometime when work slows down. Not sure how long i will keep it but mind as well do it right the first time around
