I have play/slop between the steering wheel and the column, I have herd there is a kit that I could get to fix this, is this and easy fix the kit seems to be fairly simple.

The steering wheel has a splined connection to the column, so I doubt that's where your slop is coming from. Do you mean slop between the column and the steering gear box? If so, it could be a worn rag joint. I replaced mine with a Borgson shaft, which replaces the rag joint with a U-joint. Maybe we could help you out better if you posted a link to the actual kit you are asking about.

Thank you, but after some looking around on the old inter-web I think the issue is the upper column bearing.

I think that is what I replaced in my truck when I bought it. I could move the steering wheel up and down without moving the column. I had a dude familiar with the problem fix it and it was relatively cheap. Good luck.

Everybody said it's a pain in the butt to do. Is that true? and did it fix all the little electrical problems that seem to come from the column having all that play in the steering wheel?

I never had any electrical issues and none related to the column at all. The only issue i had was having to hold the wheel in the correct position to activate the cruise control. The airbag has to be removed and I think that is the biggest deal for the mechanic. My lower bearing was fine, but the upper one was shot. I think I even found part of it on the floor one day!

I didn't do the work but a kind of Jack of All Trades type dude did it. If I recall he said it took him an hour to complete and the bill was something like $100-125.

Nice that sounds like real good news. My cruise, horn don't work all the time, and sometimes I have to shake the steering wheel to get her to start sometimes, I think that is the neutral safety switch. they all seems to be in the same area in the column. but thanks for the info.
