OK, I figured I'd throw this up here because it is hard to find any information on minivans, let along a 2nd gen Plymouth minivan.

My dad gave me this old van, and I'm fixing it to drive. They bought it as a program vehicle almost new back in 95 and have taken pretty good care of it. It broke a valve spring a while back and he decided not to fix it and it just sat in their driveway.

So I'm going to replace the valve spring (in the back head, of course!) but there are other strange things that it has that maybe someone here has run into before.

Interior lights: they don't come on. Ever. Doors open, switch turned to on, nothing. The fuse is good, headlights and dash lights work, just no interior lights. The bulbs aren't out, I had a spare I tried just in case, but nothing. Maybe the dash switch is bad?

HVAC controls: It only blows out the defrost. My dad had a new transmission put in it back about 2 years ago and he said he had the A/C charged at the same time, but he can't remember when the controls stopped working. Are these vacuum controlled or electronic?

Everything else seems to be in pretty good shape with it, paint is fairly new, transmission was rebuilt by a reputable shop in Cary, and the tires are brand new. Might need some new struts in the front, but overall once I replace that valve spring it should be a pretty good little van.

w/ the A/c, my money is on a problem w/ the vacuum canister system. I assume that no matter what setting (heat, cold, top, bottom, etc) you put it on, it'll be the same location, just vents. Find teh canister and chase the hoses. No idea on the lights, sorry.

IMO this "free" vehicle is going to cost you a fortune in time, lol.
(if'n you'd gotten the Saturn, I could have been more helpful!)

Time is free to me.

Plus it is kind of cool if I can rescue this van, it is in really good shape and was taken care of. Can't really say that for most of the Saturns I looked at.

I thought about the vent problem again and I think the problem is that when I was goofing around with it I was sitting in the van with the ignition on with the engine off. But if not, I'll check the vacuum system.
