oh by the way where is the CPU?

Check the battery first and then check all of the battery cables. Do you have a meter? ...if not try to jump start the jeep.

Bad ground? They can "look" OK but be corroded under the connection where they actually make contact. Check ALL grounds.

Grounds, battery, starter is where I would start as well.

thanks for the replys

the grounds seem to be ok , the jeep will turn over everytime i go to crank it , when it dosent start you leave the key on and at some time you hear the two relays click and sone kind of light gear engaeing and it cranks everytime it almost as if something has to go through a "timed" sequence before it will crank, it is very consistant in the problem, try to crank it , no deal , wait for the relays to click and the gear noise and it cranks everytime. anymore suggestions. many thanks to you whom are trying to help.

Thanks
sorry for the spelling: confused:

one more note

sometimes , not everytime in cranking it the timing sounds like it is not getting the correct signal from the computer, just more food for the thought process, thanks guys

Sounds like something not making a good contact, such as corrosion, rust, damaged wire, etc. I'd try to trace the relay wires and check the relay box connections. Have you pulled the offending relays to check for dirt, grime, corrosion on those contacts?

yes i have taken the cover off the relays and looked at them as they make momentary contact, another forgotten dianosis >> i took the starter relay out and with my test light i i was checking to see which terminal had 12v as i touched one of the terminals <in the fuse box ( using a matco tester-one end hooker to ground) as i touched one of the terminals i could hear the fuel pump energize < strange as it may seem.
QUESTION ? was i completing a ground with my test light ? and there-by confirming there may be a ground problem? its just a standard test light , one end to ground , small neon light that indicates there is 12v ?
again thanks for your help

What you're hearing when you turn the key on is the fuel pump relay, possibly the ASD relay and the pump priming (light gear turning sound). Why there is a delay from when the key is turned on is a head scratcher.

My theory is the pump relay energizes as soon as the ignition is turned on. After that, the pump takes a few seconds to start and prime. Then as soon as the pump starts to prime, the ASD relay clicks.

Basically, all you can do is clean the board where the relays are, top and bottom. Check grounds. After that, access the pump wiring and meter it to see if the pump is seeing 12V BEFORE it starts to prime. If it does, your pump is going out.

Man I am having the EXACT same problem with my 1995 2.5 Jeep wrangler.I have to go outside 5 minutes before I need to leave and turn the key forward.Usually somewhere between 3-5 minutes I can hear everything under the hood start to click then it starts right up.

let me know if you find a fix and i will do the same , oh well going under the hood for another 8 hours hoping to find the elusive problem , anyone can steel me in the right direction would be greatly appreciated.

Both of your problems sound like failing fuel pumps to me. A simple pressure check and voltage check at the pump will tell most of the story.

got my fix

after much leaning over the motor , i figured i would try an expensive fix and low and behold it worked , COMPUTER as chrysler called it a "lazy" cpu, $273.00 later and it cured the prob, thanks for all the input , guys c ya later

Thanks for coming back with "The Fix"! So many times guys post questions but never post the fix so that others can benefit from their experience. I appreciate you posting how you fixed it!
