Posting this for my brother since I don't know much about these kits....

He has a '95 YJ 4.0 5-speed with a 4" Rough Country lift already.
He is thinking about doing a SOA conversion and/or swapping in d44s/waiting for my axles when I upgrade in a couple of years.

So school me in what has to be done to get this kit installed.
Just pull the t-case, install new output shaft/housing & get a new driveshaft?
How long does it typically take? Any special tools needed?

Any brands to lean towards? Any to steer away from? Anybody gone one used?
At how many inches of lift is it needed? The more info the better!

TIA,
Brandon

You can install the SYE with the tcase still in the jeep, although it may be a bit easier with it on a workbench. It shouldn't take more than a couple of hours either way. You'll need a good set of lock ring pliers. As far as brands, check out JB Conversions. http://www.jbconversions.com/index2.php?pc=1

I have t/c with sye installed. $200.

Is it the np231? What brand sye kit did you get? Do you have the driveshaft to go with it?

231, don't remember the brand and no drive shaft.

If you take it out then go ahead and get the tranny output seal too. The one I did "taken out" promptly leaked when I got done. Forums are full of similar experiences. Of course if you leave it in then you don't have to worry about. I've done 3 and only took one out. I'll never do another where I take it out. Way to easy and takes less time to do it left attached to the tranny. You also don't have to worry about bending any studs.

I don't like the hack n tap. I do like the advanced adapters and the Rubicon Express brand. One offers a heavy duty version with a slightly larger rear bearing and shaft diameter. Sorry can't remember which one. Easier on the bench can be done on the ground off a creeper (done both). Must have good external flat nose lock ring pliers. Other than keep it clean and don't over torq the bolts in the housing the pump for the case fluid must go back correctly. Otherwise in a few short trips the T-Case is fried. It will bolt up and look normal even when not reinstalled correctly. Also the shift rod bottoms on some aftermarket housings for the kit and requires some shaving. Its best to cycle through the shift funtions before reinstalling.
