Are the oil pans different between the 2wd and the 4wd 4.3 different? I think I just found the answer out the hard way. Just set the motor from a 2wd down in a 4wd and the motor mounts are close to lining up but the oil pan is hitting the front diff.

Yes they are different.

Here is a pic. 4wd is overall deeper. 2wd is shallower but slopes down more.

4wd has drain plug on bottom pass side of pan facing rear. 2wd has drain plug on driver side facing the driver side.

I have a 4wd pan if you need one. I had to swap to 2wd for my swap.

I am going to need one. I'm putting the motor in for the guy who washes cars for the shop I work at. Unfortunately he scrapped the old motor we pulled out of the 4wd trying to get a quick buck before we got around to putting this motor in. He was planning on going to the junk yard and getting one but how much do you want for the pan you have?

$60. You will also need a 4wd pickup tube for the oil pump.

My 4wd pickup tube is still on my motor with my 2wd pan for mock up on my swap. It would be at least 3 weeks before I could pull motor to get pickup tube, but at $11 for new tube from rockauto, that may be best.
