I got a 97 gmc 2500 4x4 14 bolt rear.I had to park my truck today because the rear end started making a roaring and grinding sound. When i jacked up the rear, when turning the wheels the driveshaft yoke starts pushing out the rear end..It has a semi float 14 bolt 8 lug with a 4.10 gear (GT5).Any ideas on what route i should go to fix or replace. What other axle years fit.I know its got to be same gear as the front end which is 4.10...thanks

sounds like the pinion bearings have gone out. Maybe you caught it in time and you did not hurt the gears. Need to pull the cover and check it out. you could also look at the possibly of doing a full float 14 bolt swap

find a 99 e350 or e250 ford van and yank the rear out of it. they come with 4:10 gears disc brakes and the e-brake cable hooks right up. the e250 is a semifloat d60 and the e350 is a full float d60.
