anyone know what size tires i can run with stock suspension on a 1997 dodge ram 4x4 slt not the "off-road" version. or with just a leveling kit. pics would be cool too

I ran 35s on mine with just a leveling kit... they would rub inner fender under full flex and turned though... I was running 15x8 with ~3" BS...

a different wheel would get you different results, but I would say 34" LTB would be a good choice is offroad only... if a street rig, I would go 35" MTs

Thats a big ass truck for 34"s

well if you wanted to cut out your fenders you could go alot bigger...

but with 35s it was a very capable truck... I could easily follow around any of the similar tire sized jeeps and yotas, that I rode with then...

I ran 16" 305's on my 98 without any problems I even used the factory wheels. 305's are basically the same as a 35.

305s are a 33 not 35 315s are 35s
but he is correct 285, 295, and 305s are as big as you can hope to run with no lift and stock wheels

thanks allot
i got the truck cheap and dont know if i want to wheel it or not so i dont want to put allot of money in it. yet. i have probaly about 4 or 5 yrs experience but never in a full size. the only thing it realy needs is some tranny leak fix, front axle disconnect fix and some bigger tires for now. its the slt laramie fully loaded with sunroof so it will be like wheeling a escalade.. with straight axles and 4link

I ran 35's on my stock 94 for the last 2yrs. Only rub at full lock. Just recently got a 3" spacer and am planning on some 37's once i get a new tranny.

read the specs

I have driven a '97 1500 all over the place at the ski resort, we have one with a v8 as a work truck.

Goes up steep grades and handles everything pretty damn well, in questionable traction the rear is light as with any pickup... We have the LSD rear so its not too bad. Overall I've been pretty impressed with it and the disco hasn't given us any problems though I think its a stupid design. Don't like the size of the a-pillar but that's pretty minor (takes up a lot of field of view for the windshield). With studded m/ts in the 305 flavor it has driven from the bottom to the top of the mountain many times (not up the slopes during winter though).
