I have a guy at work that wants to get rid of a truck. I'm just curious what guys are willing to pay for a running Ranger. It has some issues, that's why he wants to sell it and not fix it. 240k 4cyl 5 speed running good. Check engine light is on and he said it needs all new front brakes. Rear brakes are new. He also said it's rusty underneath from Michigan. I thought it might be a decent candidate for Bro-lite. He said he would like to get 1000 out of it, but I think that my be a little high. What do you guys think?

Honestly, from your description, scrap price or part out. It's just not worth dealing with a 20 year old truck that lived in Michigan...

I grew up in Michigan and will be real up front with you. Don't buy it. They use so much salt up there the road stay white for 3 months after the snow is gone just from the salt crystals. You live in the land of little to no snow spend the money around NC/SC/TN to find a rust free truck. You'll thank yourself later!! I'm honestly trying to figure out how to buy cars and trucks and transport them up to where I grew up as a retirement job after I get out of the Army.

If it were close, and the rust wasn't bad enough that I was afraid it would break in half the first time I jumped it, I'd probably buy it for $300-$500.

I think living too close to the rust belt has skewed old @RatLabGuy 's perception of value! Strike one, it's an old Ranger. Strike two, it doesn't run. Strike three, it's a rusty Michigan car. If he wants anything more than $3 per 100lbs of truck, walk away quickly.
He said it does run fine, just has a CEL on.
Around here any vehicle that moves is worth $500, Crazy Ray's will give $400 for any vehicle.

From Michigan = do not buy

First thing, I have no intention of buying this truck and never had the intention. I just wanted some opinions of worth to try and help the guy.

I'm from Michigan. That happens. I had a damn chevy luv break in half on me one day when I was a kid. Scared the shit out of me. It was a work truck for a tractor dealer I worked for. I used it to deliver lawn mowers etc, also lost a trailer once when the rear bumper fell off. Safety chains didn't help much in that one as they went with the trailer and bumper. Vehicles just disintegrate from the salt.

I would have saved alot of money, if I would have bought a less rusty bro-lite truck.

I paid 450 for mine. Probably wasn't near as rusty as a Michigan truck though.

he should pay you to haul it away...

i got a canadian cherokee that lived ost of its life in MI and it was a rust heap...

frame eventually broke

my ex-wifes aunt gave me a paontiac fiero from MI... it ran great untill i needed to drop the tank for a fuel pump change... i hauled it to the junkyard when i looked underneath
