thought this might help someone out there eventually. i have a 97 jeep xj with a 4.0. I have not used the ac on my jeep since i bought it over a year ago. i ran it the other day and thats when the trouble started. long story short my i found myself stranded with my ac compressor locked up. after trying to find a cheap fix, other than rerouting the belt, at about 5 different parts stores i found one that would work. i got a bypass pulley and bracket for it that just bolts in where the compressor sat. they technically do not make a bypass pulley for this car. i ended up getting an IDLER PULLEY for a 93 xj at the napa hub. it works perfect for what i wanted and cost me 30 bucks. just though that this might help for anyone who wakes up with a locked up ac compressor and does not want to spend 300 bucks for a new compressor.

the number on the side of the box is 660 1819 the name on the box is ac bypass pulley, but in the pc at napa it was an idler pulley for a 93. bracket is a triangle and mounts in the two front holes and the back right one on the compressor mounting bracket. only issue was that the front right hole is not deep enough for the bolts they gave me to go all the way in. i just have it in there as far as it will go right now but need to find a shorter bolt.

This is what I used on my 91 XJ: http://www.oreillyauto.com/site/c/d...&vi=1180077&keyword=bypass&pt=03861&ppt=C0328

This is the part for the 97+ models: http://www.oreillyauto.com/site/c/d...&vi=1180404&keyword=bypass&pt=03861&ppt=C0328

I ended up breaking the front right bolt off and haven't bothered with using and easy out yet. Just have the other two bolts in there. I used some grade 8 flat washers  to space the bolts out rather than hunting down shorter bolts. I have no freaking clue why they gave such long bolts. If you use the longer bushings then the bolts are fine, but then they don't hold the bracket securely. Flat washers worked out great.

That metal ring is a spacer for the pulley. I used it to bring the serp belt in proper alignment with the other pulleys.

the one I picked up at the Napa hub looked like the one pictured above but did not fit my '95. The rear bolt hole was too far fwd I think, and the pulley, even with the spacer ring was gonna be at least 1/2" to far rearward. I can't remember if the one i bought had 3 or 6 bushings. Luckily I did not need it, was thinking I could save a little weight on the racerig, so I returned it.

i wonder why it did not work for you. cause the one i got is supposed to be for a 93 xj or mj but somehow it fits perfect on my 97. maybe im just lucky or something i dont know
