I have a 97 jeep zj i'm wanting to undo the airbag switch under the front bumper. If i undo it will the bags go off.I would like to do this so i can move my winch up to the top of the bumper i could do more and not hit the winch plate. If i leave them hooked up it will set them off the first time i hit a good size rock with the bumper. So i guess what i want to know is is it safe to undo the plug and it not go OFF !! Thanks

The only way the bags are going to go off is if the module which is under the console is triggered by a collision. I believe it has to be going above 25 MPH to set them off anyway. Are you sure its a air bag sensor up front? Do you have a pic?

No pics i'll look 2moro if i have time and see what it is and try to take a pic and post it if time thanks

if it is the airbag sensor; you can unhook the battery and wait another 15 mins and then the airbag will have no power and can't go off. Now when you hook the battery back up... I have no idea.

BigClay did u unhook anything when u changed your front bumper

Nope. I have had two different bumpers on the front of the jeep (a homemade one from Carolina Rockshop and now an ARB), and never had a prob with the airbag.

pull the fuses

Thanks for the help guys !

I would think the g sensor would be similar to the TJ's, which does not have to be on the front bumper...you're probably looking at something completely different.

Thaks guys i have not had time to look.i leave my house around 5:00am and don't get home till 6:30pm i'll try to look this weekend. If i pull the fuse that means the 1 in the dash and the 1 in the steering wheel will not work period right if so that is what i'm going to do.
Like i sound thanks for all the help!!
