98 grand cherokee ac issues...

friend's daughter drives one of those G.C. with a 360 under the hood. She said she got a wiff of a burnt wire and the a.c. quite. Is there a problem (like the fan control switch that burns out in all tj's) that I should look to first? Just curious if there is a factory related problem to check out .

Is the comp not running or the fan? My XJ has a fan relay behind the glovebox, it got hot when it went bad and melted the socket it plugs in to. Same year so might have the same relay.
