'98 Ranger 4.0 Will Not Start. - Update 11-13-09

I have a 1998 Ranger that is a daily driver. Its is a 4x4, 4.0v6 and 5spd. It has 190,000 miles. A couple of weeks back while driving home from work the engine died and would not start back. Oil and coolant levels were fine. It did not have fuel at the check valve on the rail though. I replaced the fuel pump in the tank and the fuel filter as well but the truck still will not crank. I have tried to get the truck to start with a couple of shot of starting fluid without any luck also. The truck has fuel & pressure at the check valve on the rail now. I have also checked for any OBD II codes with a code reader, there are no codes and the CEL light is not on.
Any Ford gurus here that can help out?

getting spark?

we ran into the same sorta situation on a friends acura..ended up being the computer.

Have you checked the "emergency fuel shutoff" I had an explorer that had one behind the panel in the back. Suppose to be setup to shut off the fuel if your involved in an accident. I remember once it set its self off all by its self. Look in your manuel it may or may not have one. Just a thought

has it ever been rolled? I'm with home slice above me, it could be like the Jeeps. they have a valve in the tank that shuts off fuel if it's been rolled, or hit just right. this valve also makes it impossible to get gas in the tank. you can put an air hose down in the filler neck and stuff it with rags to keep the air pressure in and pressurize the tank and push it back down. other than that, I dunno...I mean, it IS a Ford, ya know. haha, just kidding brother. good luck.

Found out today that my truck has jumped time. How big of a job is this to do. The manual I have says I need to pull the motor to replace the timing chain. looks like this is going to suck!
