So all of a sudden the interior lights won’t go off in my ‘98 XJ.
What I’ve done so far.
Disconnected all door switches including tail gate. One at a time and all at the same time. With each one pulled individually, I also stuck a piece of metal in the end of the wiring harness where the switch goes to close the circuit in an effort I rule out the switches themselves. I didn’t have anything to test the tailgate plug as it was an odd configuration that I could find anything to jump across the pins. So it could still be the tailgate switch.
Pulled passenger interior rear quarter panel and inspected wiring harness. This is a spot that is susceptible to fraying. Stupid design as the wiring harness is stretched over a raw edge of sheet metal.
Still nothing. Lights stay on. So for now I pulled the bulbs.
Any other known issues or anything I’m doing wrong to find the problem?
