just chased down an issue with my dash cluster and thought I’d share the simple fix.
Headed up to the shop to get an inspection on our 98 ZJ. Just before turning into the shop, all the dash cluster went dead. Also discovered the over head console was dead as well as the power windows.
Back home I went to figure out the issue. After a lot of online digging, reading about BCM, ECUs, dash cluster plugs, Stereo amps and all things connected to the BUS, I found one guy that mentioned hitting the Step button on the overhead console would bring everything back on. I tried it and sure enough everything came back.
I pulled the one screw holding the overhead console, slid it forward and found the plug going into the console was loose. Secured it and all seems well now.
Hope this helps someone in the future and keeps you from having to pull the dash cluster or drop a bunch of wasted money on computers.
