Replacing ujoints on 99 burb 4l80e/241, pulled shaft and lost good amount of fluid so after reinstalling shaft I went to put tcase fluid back in and had truck nose down, loosened fill plug and had fluid gushing out so tightened back up!!! What gives?? Did factory overfill tcase s? my trans fluid didn't drop and tcase fluid smells more like diff fluid then trans fluid anyway! Any idea why that bad boys overfilled? It's darker than my trans fluid also...

Overfilled if seal went out between trans and TC if the TC is gasketed to trans, which I think it is.

Tc may have versatrak fluid, which is similar to smell in gear oil but much thinner.

I thought trans had seal and tcase had a seal I'll look for a gasket when I get a chance! Hope it's not bad seal...

Would my tcase fluid mix with trans fluid in the transmission? I keep checking it and it trans fluid is bright cherry red but the fluid in tcase was black cherryish red... and my trans fluid doesn't have the smell the trac II does!

Throwing on back brakes and I'm gonna drain tcase completely as see if my trans fluid drops I guess!? I just thought maybe the tcase was filled on a bench before install bc I'm pretty sure this is factory fluid in there!

Why did gm start using tracII instead of just atf for tcases am I still in the Dino fluid age or what?

Ok I'm guessing pressure pushes it to tcase instead of pulling it into trans!!! I appreciate ya info got all my winter maintenance done this month hope this doesn't throw curveball

It's floor shift!

New body style or old?

If it's new that may be when they changed fluid spec. Other than that I got no idea. I though the obs or manual shift cases were dmIII

Obs thats what I thought too but was told diff from the computer research.
