99 blazer help. 4x4

My friend has a 99 blazer. ( 4.3 vortec i think ).

You can hear it shift to 4hi and 4low. We held the brakes and gave it gas in 4 low and you can tell its in low and it spins the back tires ( Linelocked. )

Front end isnt connected somewhere. ( Has drive shaft. )

Is there a common problem with blazers 4x4's?. i havnt looked into it to far. Just curious.

is the front diff vacuum operated? if so there is a vacuum diaphram under the battery tray, if you manually compress the diaphram it should engage the front diff.
