99 Camaro RS Problems

Been looking at my brothers 99 Camaro for the past couple of days. Its got 100k on the motor, the last person that had it, kept it really clean and well maintained. Recently, the car has developed a tick, but not lifter tick, it sounds belt driven. After the car has idled for a few minutes, the sound quiets down alot, but then can be heard when driving it and under acceleration. I guess the best way to put it is when he is driving it, it almost sounds like he has a comp cam in it. (which he doesn't)
everything is stock as well.

check the idler/tensioner pulley for wear. these are known to make sounds when getting old.

that's what I was thinking. I just really don't know those V6's very well.
