99 Ram 1500 - Strange Noise on Acceleration

I have a '99 Dodge Ram 1500, quad cab, 4x4, 5.2L (318 ci) engine, auto tranny and it makes a strange clicking/cluncking noise when pulling away from a stop. It sounds like it's coming from the rear end and it's worse after I've been driving on the highway for awhile and come back to around town driving. When I pull away from a stop it feels like something is slipping and then catching and you hear the clicking/clunking sound. Once you get to 5 mph the sound goes away.

Anyone have any idea what this could be? It's been doing it for some time now (couple of months) but now it's really noticeable and pissing me off. Happens in forward and reverse.

mine had a limited slip that went out under warranty it made the same sound you are describing. made it worse in corners though.
 
sounds like it could be a u-joint going bad.
